The Question on the Text Poll during the Mets game tonight was "
Should the Mets be looking for help at 1st base because of Delgado's Struggles?". The answer was 52% Yes and 48% No. I was kinda shocked in seeing this considering
Carlos Delgado has gotten 3 hits in his last 49 at bats. Delgado, for those of you who don't know, is a lefty who can't hit worth a lick anymore.
However
Delgado is still making 14 million dollars this season which not only makes it impossible to move, not that anyone would take them on their city softball league at this point, but also impossible not to play.
The
Blue Jays recently released future Hall of Famer Frank Thomas because he complaining that he wasn't getting enough playing time. This happened one day after manager John Gibbons told him he would no longer be the team’s regular DH.
Thomas was hitting .167 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 60 at-bats and was in a 4-for-35 slump.
Now I'm not saying Frank Thomas is the end all be all, but
it would not hurt to have a power hitting right hander off the bench or even to play first against left handed pitching where Delgado is an easy out, hitting .200 with a putrid .273 on base percentage. Even though Delgado's average is still just .200 against right handers, his on base percentage is a respectable .341.
The
main risk is his attitude, having beef with not only the current GM of the Blue Jays, but also with Kenny Williams the man responsible for his departure from the White Sox. However, some
sources indicate that he was indeed mistreated
Lets give him a chance. He may be rejuvenated after having a chance to win and be a part of a contender.
