NYSS - An Abortion of New York Sports Journalism

Proofreading is a painstaking process of reading a research paper again and again until college students are sure that there are no typographical and grammatical errors.

These mistakes can't be avoided while composing the first draft; there is a sudden rush of ideas that students can't interrupt. Editing may not be anyone's cup of tea, but it's the only way.

Here are 6 ways to edit a research paper:

*Students must check for the subject-verb agreement. They must remember that a singular subject requires a singular verb while a plural verb requires a plural verb. This applies to both simple and complex sentences. Not even the inclusion of prepositional phrases within a sentence would change that rule.

*If readers can't understand the author's intended message, then it must be due to long sentences.
Too many words within a sentence can cause confusion. There can be redundancy of words or modifiers that can be considered as fragments. Students must shortened these sentences.

*Students must have a basic idea of the different functions of the punctuation marks. They must be able to differentiate a period from a comma, a colon from a semi-colon, etc. Confusion results if they have no knowledge about it.

*Passive sentences isn't recommended at times. It doesn't give a research paper a stronger effect, and there are cases that an active voice is the only way to grab the readers' attention. Students must alter their sentences in case they want to spice up their work.

*Though it's not wrong to use simple words, it would be advisable to consult a thesaurus in able to use different words. For example, rich can be substituted with affluent or wealthy. This gives variety to their research paper.

*Students must observe for any sudden change or interruption in the flow of ideas.
This confuses readers a great deal. It's best to use transitional sentences or paragraphs.
