this is the downfall of winning the Super Bowl. all of our free agents are getting overpaid elsewhere. not even half way through the first day of free agency the Giants lost Kawika Mitchell to the Bills and Reggie Torbor to the Dolphins. Gibril Wilson is scheduled to meet with the Raiders tomorrow. Of the three players the one I really wanted to keep was Mitchell. Wilson will get double what we offered him in a free agent market and draft class which is thin at safety. Torbor wasn't even a starter until Kiwi got hurt and i think he is more suited for a 3-4 scheme anyways. Mitchell might have had the best season of his career in NY. When he was in KC they used him as a mike and I think thats why he struggled. Hopefully Buff won't make the same mistake.
The one play that will always make me thing of Mitchell was his game saving tackle at the goal line week 3 in Washington to give the Giants their first win. My profile pic was taken right by that end zone no more than a few mins after that happened
The hits just keep on coming. Gibril Wilson just went to the Raiders for 6 years 39 mil with 16 mil guaranteed. Ward is the only relevant free agent we haven't lost yet
Ward is the only other free agent who is unsigned. As far as replacements go, the Giants seem to like what they saw out of Gerris Wilkinson in that first Patriots game when Mitchell got hurt. He is a guy i loved coming out of Georgie tech but had a hard time getting into the starting lineup. Now it looks like he is going to get his chance.
Kiwanuka will be back next year so Torbor wouldn't be starting anyways. Steve DeOssie's son Zak will be backing up Kiwi unless they decide to draft a LB in the first which they haven't done since the took Carl Banks in 83.
As far as safety goes, your guess is as good as mine. Right now our starting safeties are butler and last years 7th round pick Michael Johnson. The Giants are bringing in Sammie Knight for a look but at 31, I think another veteran is the last thing we need in the secondary. Kenny Phillips would be a great pickup in the draft but we would have to trade up pretty far to get him
