NYSS - An Abortion of New York Sports Journalism

I must admit, when I found out about this I was a little upset. Not that I was totally against it happening, but I was for giving Willie until the all-star break to get this team to play to its talent level.

It's finally cemented in stone as Willie Randolph got fired at 3:00am EST Tuesday morning by Omar Minaya.

Mets fans and bloggers are going bonkers over the fact that Omar fired Willie one game after making him fly across the country to play the Anaheim Angels. Willie has also stringed together two wins in a row and 3 out of the last 4. Many are calling Omar and the Mets organization classless and inept and it appears that those critics ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

What is the point of terminating an employee like this? It makes everyone angry and upset. Joe D from NYSS partner Metsmerized, said it best "The Mets have made Willie Randolph a martyr in this city." The people who are pissed off are the people who wanted Willie gone in the first place!

Pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto were also kicked outta town.

Jerry Manuel, 54, takes over the team on an interim basis, a team that is one game under .500. He managed the White Sox from 1998-2003, and was named AL Manager of the Year in 2000.

LISTEN I JUST WANT TO WIN BEISBOL GAMES. If this move makes that happen then I'm glad. I'm not sure it will though. Willie made plenty of bonehead moves in his time here but he was not responsible for Wagner blowing multiple saves or the Mets sub par RISP BA.

HOW DO YOU FEEL THE METS SHOULD HAVE HANDLED THE FIRING IF AT ALL?

Not for nothing, but Willie was over his head as a major league manager. And I'm sooooo happy that Peterson is out the door too. However, Omar needs to fire himself. He put this sorry group of over the hill Latinos together. Tony Bernarzard needs to be shown the door also. Manuel might be able to do a better job than Willie, but he'll still have to work with the same team, which now has a Hispanic manager to go along with the rest of Los Mets.

¿Se hable Espanole?
yes now there may be less of a culture barrier between mgt and the players now, which could lead to improved communication between them, which may lead to better played baseball beisbol

I completely agree with you about Peterson, his analogies and off the cuff thinking was too much for some of the pitchers to handle. The new Pitching coach Dan Warthen, who seems to be a little more mechanical and tangible with his advice...I guarantee Heilman improves now that he can get some decent instruction
