A website I have been visiting frequently as of late is HolyTaco.com. It's a mans blog that focuses on everything from galleries of hot girls giving you the finger to flowcharts about how to give a best man speech at a wedding. Is it Juvenile? Yes. Are all guys juvenile? Absolutely. Do the majority of the posts there focus on humans of the female variety? No shit.
My favorite subject they have every Friday is called
Drunken Argument. The argument can be anything from...Who would win in a fight - A Gremlin or an Ewok? To..."For or against Strip Clubs." You get the point (I hope). It's what two guys could potentially fight about given they're inebriated, bros and bored.
So have it I was at a wedding this past weekend which featured an
ice luge. In between me abusing this thing and avoiding the wedding planner who was giving everyone shit for taking shots, I had a drunken argument of my own.
The argument topic - Whether the Mets should shut Johan Santana down for the season or let him pitch. It went a little something like this.
Drunken Argument For Shutting Johan Down
The Mets are about as meaningless right now as Brett Favre's commitment to retiring. They have a better chance of breaking the record for players put on the DL in one season then they do to make the postseason. Isn't making the playoffs the purpose of playing in the regular season? They just invested 100 gazillion dollars in their ace, Johan Santana and the way things are going, the chances of him getting injured are greater then Tony Bernazard becoming furious when the waiter brings him the wrong dressing with his salad. The only thing that can happen if Johan continues to pitch is that he puts more wear and tear on that golden arm and he is that much more ineffective towards the end of his 7 year deal. Think about it, he has 5 more years with the Mets and there will be many more chances for him to pitch in meaningful games in September and hopefully October. Why put any more stress on him then you have to? Bring up a one of the farm hands and let them prove they can or can't handle the big leagues so we can see what we have and potentially showcase them to other prospective teams as trade bait. That's the best decision if your sole objective as a Mets fan is to see them win a championship one day.
Drunken Argument for Letting Him Pitch For the Rest of the Season.
What is this the little leagues? Johan Santana is a grown ass man and he has too much integrity and pride to quit now and wait for next season. One of the reasons why the Mets invested so much money in this guy was because he was a work horse, not a little bitch who only plays hard when the going was good. Besides, it's not like he has some retarded pitching motion where he is susceptible to injury. The Mets are not mathematically eliminated from making the playoffs anyway. Why not play hard, hope a couple guys come back from the DL, and pray that the Phillies or the Wild Card teams pull a 2007 Mets and lose every game in September. Stranger things have happened. Do you think that blue collar Mets fans want to come to the park in September to see Elmer Dessens throw some bullshit over the plate? Hell no, they want to see competitive baseball, that's what they paid their hard earned money for and that's what they deserve.
