NYSS - An Abortion of New York Sports Journalism

I want to begin this short article by saying this is merely speculation and only my opinion. As I read about  2, 42, and now 28(last year 27) no getting contract extension talks in season at first I thought why not.  I mean who else deserves it?  Nobody in sports is getting a hometown payday like Jeter is next year.  I mean what can you possibly do with a winner like jeter, as he comes into his mid 30's and still has a few good years left.

In my opinion they are not getting extension talks now because the yankees realize the importance of not having players distract the team with negotiaions during season.  What better way of never having that problem is takin legendary players like 2 and 42 and make an example.  This franchise is so fuckin money to think of it, and just another reason why these 2 guys are arguably the 2 of the best advocates for your team you could have.

What this does show is that no player can come into this organaztion and run Terrell Owns type negotiations.  Think about it, if legendary players like 2 and 42 couldnt get the special treatment than who could?  right?

This is a good point Matt. The Yanks typically don't mess around with negotiating contracts during spring training and mid season. some of the reason is that the players, especially ones like 2 and 42 know that they will eventually get rewarded for getting the job done. Not every player can expect their team to be like this, especially when your talking about other sports like football.
i agree. If they made a stink they wouldnt be yankees. They know that they will be back. I couldnt agree more
