NYSS - An Abortion of New York Sports Journalism

Who the Mets Got: 6'4" Arizona St. 1B Ike Davis and 6'1"'SS Reece Havens from South Carolina Gamecocks

Whats Good About Them: Ike was originally drafted by the Rays out of High School but elected to go to 'Zona, He has been hovering around a .400 BA all year and is also the closer for the Sun Devils. A huge strength of his is that he is completely enamored with girly white puppies. Havens also bats for average and has power as he has 16 dingers this season. He also is a good defensive player with a .977 fielding percentage this year earning him SEC All defensive team honors.

Whats Bad About Them:Ike Davis has no weaknesses according to his Myspace page...LOL Havens is a SS but the Mets will likely want him to be a catcher and his swing may not translate into much power in the major leagues because of a lack of extension of his arms.

Who the Yankees Got: 6'3" High Schooler RHPitcher Gerrit Cole and 6'2" LHPicher Jeremy Bleich out of Stanford

Whats Good About Them: He seems filthy after watching this video. He seems to have a live fastball that he can throw for strikes and potential to be able to throw an effective slider and change up. Bleich was Stanford's top pitcher in 2007 but an early season injury kept him out for much of the year, and he has only recently returned. That being said, the junior is 2-2 with a 1.09 ERA in eight appearances

Whats Bad About Them: Cole won't be major league ready for I would think would be at least 4 years. He also has an awkward motion throwing which I would think would make him susceptible to injuries in the future. Cole also is represented by Scott Boras. Many think that Bleich was a reach because of his unimpressive overall career numbers and less than stellar "stuff" whatever that means.

The Mets also picked up a local High School kid from my neck of the woods in New Port Richey, FL out of Ridgewood High. He went in the later rounds and I can't remember his name. The Tampa bay area is a breeding ground for athletes, lots of good programs down here.
