A Kinda Serious Jets QB Comparison - Mark Sanchez Vs. Kellen Clemens

Last year I actually received more kind emails than hate emails (for once) after I wrote A Kinda Serious Jets QB Comparison between Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens. The only problem with last years comparison was that the Jets eventually signed Brett Favre and immediately secured themselves yet another crappy season.

But things look brighter these days. Favre has retired for the 17th time and Jets training camp brings a compelling QB competition between 1st round pick Mark Sanchez and 4 year veteran Kellen Clemens. Here are the advantages and disadvantages to both of them.

Kellen Clemens Advantages
- Learned from Chad Pennington and Brett Favre
- Could be a rugged lumberjack if you look at him quickly
- Has previously faced and defeated NFL defenses before, albeit sparingly
- Can grow a sweet beard, unlike Sanchez who can only grow thin mustaches
- Proven he can hand the ball off to Thomas Jones & Leon Washington

Kellen Clemens Disadvantages
- Learned from Chad Pennington and Brett Favre
- Has had ample opportunity to prove himself in NFL to no avail
- Is an Oregon alum - which has never produced a solid starting NFL QB
- Sub par arm strength makes it difficult to get the ball to sub par WR's
- Much to Woody Johnson's disdain - Clemens would never make a GQ cover

Mark Sanchez Advantages
- Young and boisterous
- Has a strong arm and is proficient throwing while out of the pocket
- Definitely gets laid more often & by hotter girls then Kellen (who's married)
- Possesses the physical tools and the intangibles of a winning QB
- The general feeling of hope trumps the underlying certainty of mediocrity

Mark Sanchez Disadvantages
- Has about as much experience as a starting QB Matt Cassel did
- Has allowed himself to be photographed like this and this
- Unrealistic to think he's capable of leading an NFL team into playoffs now
- He lost a QB competition to the current Detroit Lions 3rd string QB
- Illusion of great stats due to superior talent around him compared to shitty Pac 10 opponents

I just emailed this in depth analysis to Sexy Rexy Ryan. I am here to help.

Did I miss anything? let me know
