Now I don't want to rush to conclusions here, but Jets QB Mark Sanchez might be kind of a big deal here in New York come Monday morning. Showing the poise of a grizzled veteran and the ingenuity of a famished bear devouring a picnic basket, the Mexican Matador "Olé'd" the Texans defense by converting 5 third down chances and leading the Jets to a 24-7 victory over the Texans.
On the other side of the ball, CB
Darrelle Revis contained Andre Johnson, the 2nd best WR in the league, seemingly without breaking a sweat. This enabled the Jets front 7 to resemble the Ravens Defense of the last 9 years by blitzing the fragile Matt Schuab and smoldering Steve Slaton.
As a Jets fan who has been tormented for essentially my entire football watching life, it's hard not to be slightly giddy. The Jets had almost has a good team last year but three main pillars held them back.
1) Eric Mangini's questionable in-game calls and overall nonsense
2) A leaky defense that got ran on more then a NYC pothole
3) Brett Favre throwing unnecessary picks and being annoying
With Rex Ryan, his defensive philosophy, and Mark Sanchez blossoming into a NY sports icon, I can finally possess hope as a Jets fan. That at the very least, I know that this team is capable of putting together an effort that can generate a win.
If you look at Matt Ryan's first game last year. He had 161 yards passing with a TD. However, it was against the inevitable 0-16 Lions. Joe Flacco had a measly 129 yards passing and played against the crappy Bengals. Both Ryan and Flacco led their teams to the playoffs last year as rookies. Acting optimistically and using Ryan's and Flacco's first games as a sample, Jets fans can start beginning to consider possibly having a man-crush on Sanchez.
Am I being too Optimistic?
