Draft Analysis Compilation - Yankees Cito Culver

aim to collect the best quotes and analysis from all the sources for the Yankees 1st round pick. Stripped of all the cliches, fanfare, and banalities.
Cito Culver, SS/RHP, 32nd overall pick, Birthdate 9/26/1992, Height 6'0'', Weight 172 pounds

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com Named his team's most valuable player in each of the last three seasons, Culver was also a three-time all-county selection and an Under Armour All-American....Culver completed his prep career batting .561 (37-for-66) with 10 doubles, five triples, nine home runs, 38 RBIs and 20 walks in 22 games as a senior....He had a .933 fielding percentage this year, committing just eight errors in 120 total chances, helping lead his school to the Monroe County Division title.
Marc Carig of the The Star-Ledger
Culver had his sights set on the University of Maryland, though those plans may change, considering that the Yankees used their No. 1 pick to nab him. In their pre-draft Top 200 list, Baseball America ranked Culver No. 168. The publication seemed to slot Culver between the fourth and sixth rounds...The publication also points out that as a high school pitcher, Culver has hit 94 m.p.h. on the gun, though he considers himself as a shortstop.

John Kilma of Baseball Beginnings
He’s got a modest build on which the strength is still filling in. The quickness jumps out, both in his hands and his footwork. It also plays in his running speed and he has a fast first step...This guy is an athlete...But all this guy would have to do is learn how to slap the ball and put it on the ground and he can run you .300 and have the arm and range for 2B, SS and 3B.

Ed Valentine from Pinstripe Alley
In the Yankees' position, I happen to like the philosophy. Face it, very few young players are going to come through the farm system and make lasting contributions to the Yankees. They might as well swing for the fences rather than settle in the draft, looking for those diamonds in the rough they believe could be great....Do I know the Culver pick will turn out well? Nope, I have no idea. If this is the guy in this draft class the Yankees felt they had to have, then I'm fine with them doing what they felt they needed to in order to grab him. Even if that means taking him earlier than other teams obviously would have.

EJ Fagan from The Yankee U

The Yankees have a lot more information on this guy than anyone. He’s local enough for them to get a lot of looks, and they obviously have a plan if they are talking about him as a RHP. But the pick strikes me as a bit weird. The BA rankings seem to suggest that Culver would be available in the 2nd round. But the Yankees have a history (see Heathcott, Hughes) of going after their guy, so they are probably pretty confident in his abilities.
