Jets 2010 1st Round Draft Pick - Kyle Wilson CB, Boise State

Kyle Wilson is the Jets 2010 1st round draft pick. This video below showcases his talents and exposes his weaknesses in the biggest game of that he's ever played - This past years BCS Fiesta Bowl game vs. the TCU Horned Froggies.

Some thoughts on the on the kid by highlight

Highlight 1- It was a miscommunication on TCU's part but he played in the zone very well either way. He needs to avoid getting tangled up like that because in the NFL, the QB's gonna be able to sense the coverage faster and work with the WR to take the hot route. It would also be nice if he could actually catch a ball when its thrown right to him.
Highlight 2- This play is the most telling of the bunch. It shows his quickness, ability to sense the receivers path, and mindset to knock a ball down when that is all you can do.
Highlight 3- I wouldn't be shocked if this is the play that caught Rex's eye. If Rex was eating lamb chops at the time when this happened, and he most likely was, then he probably choked a bit. He attacked the blindside of the QB like a textbook would show you too. Bravo.
Highlight 4- He bites a little early on this slot pitch play and that causes him to lose the angle and eat it form the middle WR. To his defense, it was a hell of a block but he should have angled his pursuit of the ball and anticipated the play better. Having experienced, pro bowl leadership on the field with him should help address this weakness.
Highlight 5 & 6- He has a tough time taking down both of these targets mainly because of poor tackling technique. He wants to be a playmaker and that is the reason he is trying to strip and pull from the WR's top half. A few Rex Ryan Hard Knocks drills should be able to get the right technique in his head. The positive is that he is right on top of the play mixing it up right after the receiver catches it.
Highlight 7- This play epitomizes what the weakness I just mentioned. He tries to go high instead of going for the players hips and legs. One of the many reasons why Revis so good is that once he gets his hands on you you don't get away. Wilson will have to be able to differentiate when its the right time to be aggressive and when its time to just minimize yardage gained.
Highlight 8- He shows some skills vs. the run here. Although he isn't the one who sacks the QB, he looked comfortable getting into the backfield and he had his presence to help break the play up.
Highlight 9- Nice job giving his team ideal field position. He will be playing special teams so it is important he can make an impact on both punt coverage and punt returns. In 2008, he led the nation in punt return TD's with 3 in one month alone. See him cause havoc here.
Highlight 10- Heads up play to keep the receiver from catching the ball in front of the 1st down marker. At this point in he game, he didn't need to be aggressive here and he makes the right play at the right time.

Since the Jets didn't have any glaring needs to fill it makes sense that they took the best player on thier board. Having CB depth is always good especially in a 46 defensive system where their is a need for multiple DB's on the field on most passing downs.

See Rex's thoughts on how the WR's will react when they encounter Kyle Wilson this year.
