The
New York Knickerbockers should draft North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson with the 8th pick in the 2010 NBA draft.
"What? This dude is doesn't know d**k"
"Bloggers say the dumbest shit sometimes...actually ALL the time"
"NYsportsDouche should stick to complaining about the Mets instead of trying to pretend that he knows hoops"
"WTF? I thought I Googled "Redtube"
Those are some of the things that people might be thinking after they read the first sentence of this article. The popular consensus on who the Knicks should take in the draft seems to be Davidson guard
Dell Stephen Curry. Besides, Curry is one of the best shooters available and he is an underrated passer. Why wouldn't Mike D'Antoni want this weapon on his team?
Well, D'Antoni probably does want Curry. There are three problems with this though. One, is that Curry plays less defense than Eddy Curry. Two, he doesn't have a prototypical NBA body. Three, he probably
won't be around when the Knicks are ready to choose at the 8th pick.
As much as I
think that Curry will end up being a nice NBA player, I
know that he is not a true table setter. No position is more important in Mike D'Antoni's offense then the point guard. Chris Duhon had a career year in this system and as putrid as Duhon is at making layups, he has a relatively high basketball IQ - something that is absolutely necessary to run this offense.
You know who would be perfect player to play PG for the Knicks? Chris Paul - the best PG in the NBA right now. Yup, that will happen as soon as Charles Dolan hires Larry Brown to be the coach again.
Perhaps the Knicks can draft a PG like Paul. One who possesses the necessary leadership qualities and winning attitude to catapult the Knicks to the next level and beyond. There is a PG in this draft and his name is Ty Lawson.
Let's compare Chris Paul's college stats to Ty Lawson's. That would be a fair analysis considering they played in the same conference against very similar competition.

With the exception of Rebounds per game, Ty Lawson is either tied or exceeding Chris Paul in every category and he did it in less minutes per game.
They both have similar (and very good) 3 point field goal statistics but what I found on another stat website was the most interesting. Lawson has 23 less turnovers (66 to 89) than Paul and has appeared in 3 more games.
Let's say that Ty is 3/4 of the player that Paul is, that would still make him one of top guards in the NBA. In case you forgot, Ty also won an NCAA championship and that's something Paul was not able to do. Ty played like a beast in the big game scoring 20 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 8 steals.
I would love to see someone come up with an argument against this with valid proof points.
