There comes a time every Autumn when the Mets complete their inevitable descent into futility and Mets fans focus their precious time and attention on Football.
The majority of Mets fans favor the New York Jets over the New York Giants. You might also know that one guy who likes a team such as the Cowboys or Dolphins and he will most likely prefer this non-NY team because of some reason that he thinks is legit but really isn't. His reason will be something like "When I was a small child, Emmit Smith was the man" or "Dan Marino had a such a sweet haircut, I had to be 'Phins fan" or something equally retarded and asinine.
If I had to make a guesstimate of how Mets Fans football preferences broke down, it would look like this.

As this extremely scientific graph insinuates, most Mets fans are indeed Jets fans. There are a few different theories of why a Met fan might prefer the Jets over the Giants. Some people think that because the words Mets and Jets rhyme. Others think that there might be a subjective patriarchal influence behind each impressionable child turned sports fan.
The real reason why most Mets fans are also Jets fans is this. Both teams have been historically deprived of consistent success. The only thing that
is consistent is the promise that the organization will find a way to torture their fan base in a new, creative way each season. That's why it was so weird the Mets blew it two Septembers in a row in 2007 and 2008. It was the same torture method back to back. Where's the creativity in that! At least in 2009 the Mets found an imaginative way to agonize its fans by gradually putting the entire team on the disabled list.
In 2008, the Jets had did have some hope but we all knew that Brett Favre truly sucks deep down. Whether you admitted it to yourself or not. 2009 seems different though. The Jets don't have to win the Super Bowl this year to ignite its fan base, it's there already. It isn't difficult to enjoy Fall when the Summer's been a enigmatic disaster.
