NYSS - An Abortion of New York Sports Journalism

Since the Carmelo Anthony trade, The New York Knicks have not performed at a level most fans expected. These expectations were only exemplified by the fact that Knicks fans were absolutely famished after 10 years of MSG turmoil while simultaneously learning how to use the Internet. In case you didn't know, the Internet is the place where you can log in, check your mailbox, steal music, wank it, make bad investments, and complain about sports teams - All at the same fucking time.

Being that I know a thing or two about this here internet, I have been able to identify, collaborate, aggregate, compile, compartmentalize, and divide the entire Knicks fan-scape into two categories. Group 1: People who don't think like me and are stupid and Group 2: People who think like me and are smart. Let us further bucketize the two groups.

Group 1: People who don't think like me and are stupid

You know who you are. The last time you played basketball you were in Junior High and you thought that if you tried out for the basketball team you'd get girls. But you we're WRONG. Instead, bitches made fun of you because you looked more awkward than a pedo asking a teen in a mouse costume at Chuckee Cheese if they had any job openings.

You think that all it takes to win games is to have the two best players on the court. That the best players are the two highest scorers. STOP IT. You think that if a team loses games in the 4th quarter, it MUST be the coaches fault. The coach and only the coach is responsible for how a team executes late in games. Let me tell you the difference between basketball and football. In pigskin, you can put a great coach on a shit team and that team will improve dramatically. In hoops, you can put a great coach on a shit team and that team will only be a little better if not stay exactly the same. It basketball, it about 85% personnel and 15% coaching and that's generous to coaches.

You think the Knicks aren't playing well because Carmelo is overrated and Chauncey is old. You think the trade was retarded and shouldn't have ever been made. You also think Tim Mozgov is a jacked, hairy character from Street Fighter II Turbo. YOU DANCE VERY WELL. You also look at the other side of this deal to see the Nuggets short term success. Using that as the main factor to determine if the trade worked from the Knicks perspective is plain silly. It will take at least until the end of next season to make a legitimate evaluation.

Group 2: People who think like me and are smart

Let me clarify by stating that thinking like me and having intelligence are mutually exclusive. In fact, I had to search for the definition of mutually exclusive before writing that last sentence, which confirms the validity of it. Huh? Oh yeah, KNICKS. Smart fans understand that nothing great happens without hard work and patience. It takes time to build a championship level roster and a championship level TEAM.

The Knicks record before the trade? 28-26. After the trade? 7-10. BIG WHOOP. There are going to have to play at least 90 more games before we can reasonably assess the trade, D'Antoni, Chauncey, and Donnie Walsh. Are people who think like me happy about the team's recent play? HELL NO. They haven't been getting it done. It's isn't acceptable to NOT exert 100% effort, to continuously fail in the 4th Quarter, and to NOT call a timeout when your team is clearly in need of a rest and strategic direction. We have seen all of these problems surface at times during the last 17 games.

So why the Knicks keep getting tired at the end of games? Why they give up so many points each night? Why does the other team get so many easy shots. It is due to ONE primary reason. ROSTER. This team was just gutted out and repackaged like a pig becoming a delicious sausage patty. The Knicks don't have the depth to play this laborious schedule and win a lot of games. They don't have a Center on this roster. Not one. Ronnie Turiaf is not a legit Center. A backup center, AT BEST. When you don't have a Center, you give up a lot of points. EASY points. Especially when your PF is not a great defender to make up the slack. Plus you don't have a backup PG which is even harder when your starting PG is old and injury prone after a long ass dramatic season. These aren't excuses, they are facts. The best teams in the league have a defensive center, if not two centers. The Magic, Bulls, Mavs, Lakers. All these teams have big man who are dominant defensively.

Those are the two groups and congratulations, we are all stupider for reading this. I wrote this last blog the Knicks Need ___ to Become a Contender before the Knicks got Melo and I stand proudly by my initial diagnosis. The Knicks got Melo, but still need a Center, a backup PG, and a change in coaching Philosophy. The Knicks got one of the 4, once we get the other 2 roster spots, all that needs to happen is D'Antoni to do his job and good things will happen for all Knicks fans.

I have to say that I am a proud Knick fan who never gave up hope. While most 90s Knicks fans jumped on the Nets wagon in the last decade, I remained a part of the Knick faithful. It has been a long and exhausting past 10+ years, but it finally looks like greatness is returning to the Garden. I think it is unfair to make a determination on the Carmelo Anthony trade. He is a fantastic all around player who has only been on the team for less than 2 months. Once Melo and Amare gel they will be a force to wrecken with. There are still a few changes that need to be made to consider the Knicks a championship contender. We gave up a lot of role players to Denver so it will take some time to acquire new talent to compliment the 2 superstars. I'm sure it won't be long until others join the Knick party and put us back on top.
